Towing Vessel Inspection Checklist . . . - 03/29/2007

Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Ketchikan has commenced a towing vessel safety examination program. Personnel from the Marine Safety Detachment are making arrangements to board towing vessels operating out of Ketchikan and checking them for compliance with the numerous Coast Guard regulations which apply to them even as "uninspected" towing vessels. A copy of the check off list currently being used by the Marine Safety Detachment is available below.

Southeast Alaska Industry Days

The Marine Exchange, in partnership with USCG Sector Juneau, sponsored several Industry Days in late March. These events provided an excellent opportunity for representatives of the Small Passenger Vessel and Waterfront Facility industries to meet with Southeast Alaska's USCG leadership and get updates on the latest regulations. At the meetings the Marine Exchange agreed to publish electronic copies of the presentations made during the industry days by the Coast Guard presenters. TWIC Fees Announced . . . - 03/20/2007
The Transportation Security Administration issued a notice in the Federal Register announcing the fees for the Transportation Workers Identification Credential which will amount to $137.25 for most persons who will need these cards. Details are in the Federal Register notice below.

EPA Emission Standards for Marine Engines . . . - 03/06/2007

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a news release stating that it is proposing a new rule to significantly reduce air emissions from marine diesel engines below 30 liters per cylinder displacement. The requirements would begin a phase-in process in 2009 and apply to ferries, tugboats, yachts, and marine auxiliary engines. The proposal is discussed in greater detail in the accompanying fact sheet. (3/2/07).
