Marine Exchange of Alaska

Haines is a city with several hotels, motels, machine shops, and general stores on the W side of Portage Cove. It is 950 miles from Seattle and 88 miles from Juneau, and is at the S end of a highway running along the Chilkat River and Klehini River through the Porcupine Mining District and connecting with the Alaska Highway at Haines Junction.
