COVID-19 “Coronavirus”- An update from MXAK Executive Director, Captain Ed Page
Marine Exchange of Alaska (MXAK) has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and is taking precautions to flatten the curve and reduce the risk of infection. During this time of uncertainty, the mission of MXAK remains constant – provide information, communications, and services to promote safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible maritime operations. We will continue to fulfill this mission by providing round the clock services including vessel tracking, real-time weather information, and communications with the maritime community.
To protect the integrity of operations and safeguard the health of the community, MXAK will be closed to the public until further notice. Despite the locked doors, we are not abandoning ship! The Operations Center will remain staffed 24/7 by our Maritime Information Specialists. To reduce interaction amongst ourselves, most staff outside the Operations Center have begun working remotely and can be reached via e-mail. Lastly, all work-related trips requiring air travel have been paused until further notice. This pandemic highlights the vital role the maritime community plays in steadfastly delivering food and supplies. We value and appreciate the important job mariners do under adverse conditions and will continue to work in support of their efforts.
