Work commute, Aleutian Island style. On a recent f Work commute, Aleutian Island style. On a recent field trip, the Field Ops Team travelled over 1,300 miles west of Juneau to Umnak Island, the third largest island in the Aleutian archipelago. Thanks for traveling the distance and making upgrades to the Nikolski White Alice weather station, guys! Visit MXAK.org for live weather reports around Alaska.
Happy Winter Solstice! On behalf of everyone at MX Happy Winter Solstice! On behalf of everyone at MXAK, we hope you have a merry & bright holiday season! We were thrilled when Juneau’s Downtown Business Association asked if we would participate in the Light Up Juneau for the Holidays campaign. We love being a part of this community and operating in downtown Juneau. This year has been challenging for countless people near and far. Our objective in decorating our office building was to add light to these long winter nights and to hopefully make people smile as they passed by. We chose to create a three-story lighthouse to pay homage to Alaska’s rich maritime history. Prior to the use of digital charts and satellite communication, lighthouses were a critical navigational resource. Often providing the only indication of land, lighthouses have stood the test of time, guiding mariners through heavy seas and along treacherous coasts. Like with everything, technology has dramatically changed maritime operations. Lighthouses may not be relied upon as much as before, but many remain in use today and they will forever serve as icons of hope, safety, and direction. One of our guiding principles at MXAK is to have fun doing great things. Needless to say, we had a lot of fun on this project and we hope Juneau enjoys our disco nautical themed holiday lights!
